Happy Church-parking-lot-candy-giveaway Day...
You might have noticed static over the air. Hurricane Sandy took the roof off of our transmitter site, drenching our broadcast equipment and took us off the air. We are working hard with our engineering team to repair the damage and get back on the air as soon as possible.
There are a couple of ways you can help.
1. Pray. Pray hard. Pray that God provides, that the damage is not substantial and that repairs are simple and inexpensive.
2. Give. Your gifts can help us pay for this unexpected cost. One we could not plan on.
Until such time as we are back on the air, you can still hear your favorite music and programming online at WOLC.org!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Chris August
Chris Augut is a native of Dallas, Texas, and though relatively new to Christian music, is a veteran of the music industry. Before releasing his Christian debut in 2010, he toured as a keyboardist for Ashlee Simpson and other mainstream artists.
Skillz: Chris is a self-taught pianist, guitarist, and producer.
While he is not one to shy away from writing about his faith, Chris isn't afraid to embrace relationships and heartache in his songwriting. Chris cites influences such as Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, and Gavin DeGraw who all contributed to the polished pop/rock sound that is sure to resonate with all who listen.
His new album The Upside of Down (released this August, of course) is more focussed on faith than any previous projects. Shortly before finishing the project, Chris was in a severe skateboarding accident that nearly killed him. When he woke up in a hospital, Chris was struck by how quickly life can be taken away and that fuels his passion now, more than ever.
Awards: In 2011, Christ scored 3 Dove Awards: New Artist OTY, Male Vocalist OTY & Pop/Contemporary Recorded Album OTY.
Fun Fact: August is actually Chris' middle name.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Ashes Remain
Ashes Remain’s Josh Smith and Ryan Nalepa (guitar/keys) met one summer leading worship at a youth camp located in rural Maryland - not too far from Gettysburg, PA. Over the course of that summer, Smith and Nalepa had a feeling that God was calling them to walk down similar paths. Desiring to be obedient to God’s will, Smith and Nalepa committed to pray together each day throughout the summer, asking God that if He wanted them to form a band to make His will known to them.
Months later, Smith, back in Florida, received a phone call from a church in Maryland inviting him to lead worship full time. It just so happened that the church was ten minutes down the road from Nalepa.
The band's Fair Trade Services debut What I've Become was written mostly for teenagers, from the perspective of what it is like to feel as if there is no hope, where you are your own worst enemy and ultimately what it looks like to go from that very real and dark place to one where there is hope and step into the light.
That journey from dark to light isn't always a swift one and sometimes has to be walked many times, but it is a journey that the band is familiar with and feels called to go on with their fans.
As lead vocalist Josh Smith puts it, “We’re just broken people who need Jesus.”

By the way - today at 5:30, join Josh for an interview with BEBO NORMAN!
ARTIST OF THE DAY
Bebo Norman
Jeffrey Stephen "Bebo" Norman is from Columbus, GA. He was originally involved in Young Life Ministries and gained a considerable fan base by performing at the summer camps there. He made friends with the members of Caedmon's Call and toured with them for years.
Back before it was fairly normal for independent artists to be successful, Bebo Norman sold fifty thousand self-made copies of his first record (1996) at coffeehouse shows, out of the trunk, and online. Now, as a recognized singer/songwriter in the Nashville-Christian community, he still keeps a low profile. He likes to quietly do his thing, without the trappings of the limelight.
Bebo's newest album just released this week - Lights of Distant Cities - and it features his latest hit song The Broken.
Family: Bebo and his wife have two young sons - Smith and Miller.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Switchfoot
"Switchfoot" is a surfing term. Lead singer/songwriter Jon Foreman says "We all love to surf and have been surfing all our lives so to us, the name made sense. To switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It's about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music."
Switchfoot has carefully walked the line of being Christians who found success in the secular market, but uncomfortable with the way big record labels work. About three years ago the band decided to walk away from a multi-album deal - comfort and stability - to become one of the most successful independent bands in the music industry. They live with their families in San Diego, produce on their terms and organize their own world tours.
Line-Up:
Jon Foreman
Tim Foreman
Chad Butler
Jerome Fontamillas
Drew Shirley
Fun Fact: Brothers Jon and Tim were both Boy Scouts in their youth and in 2010 Switchfoot performed at the Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree to celebrate the organization's 100th anniversary.
Personal Note: Some friends sang the Switchfoot song Only Hope in my wedding. It was lovely.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jared Anderson
Known for his work with New Life Church and the Desperation Band, Jared Anderson is the writer of such modern worship favorites as “Rescue” and “Amazed.” Anderson's artistry has blossomed at New Life Church, pastored by Ted Haggard. He grew up at the church, and then went away to college at Oral Roberts University where he studied music and made a couple of indie records. He eventually returned home to Colorado, and to New Life.
As his church was rocked by scandal surrounding their lead pastor, the church learned about Grace, forgiveness and delved into a closer walk with God. As they continue to rebuild, they find themselves asking new questions about who God is calling them to be.
In writing the songs for Live From My Church, Jared sought to create music that could easily be recreated by any church band. The goal was to bring to life accessible worship music for others to embrace, adapt and lead people to Jesus.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Aaron Shust
Aaron Shust is first and foremost a worship leader. In fact, he wrote his first hit songs for his church. My Savior, My God was destined to be more than just a local favorite on Sundays. That song topped six different charts at once on its way to becoming the most played song of 2006 on Christian radio!
My Savior, My God earned Aaron Shust a trio of Dove Awards for “Song of the Year,” “Songwriter of the Year,” and “New Artist of the Year.” In no time, the Georgia-based songwriter was sharing the stage with the likes of superstars MercyMe, Bebo Norman, Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith, Jeremy Camp, Brandon Heath, and TobyMac, in between his own headline stints!
After living in Atlanta for ten years, in early 2010 he and his wife made the decision to pull up stakes and and move their young family back to Aaron’s Pennsylvania hometown. In less than a year, he was invited to take on the role of worship leader in the church he had grown up in.
“It’s a little church,” says Aaron. “No fancy lights, doesn't have a great sound system. But it’s a part of the fabric of my life and my family’s life. My grandmother went to that church. My family has generations of roots there. It’s where I first heard the gospel and was baptized. I feel like this is my home, and these are my people."
The support of their local church became critical to Aaron and his wife as they walked through their son’s medical issues. Diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis, a rare and extremely painful condition, two-year-old Nicky was unable to take in any nutrition. After many failed treatments, Nicky responded to some medication. It was a mixed blessing because the treatment would require him to be on strong medications and steroids for all of his life.
Then came a miracle. Their son’s tests came back normal. It was as if he’d never even had the condition. What was considered to be a permanent disease seemed to have disappeared. The doctor could offer no explanation as to why.

Oh - and LET'S GO O's!
ARTIST OF THE DAY
MIKESCHAIR
MIKESCHAIR was born out of a dorm room at Nashville's Belmont University. Music could always be heard coming out of Mike Grayson's dorm room, attracting other musicians to volunteer in his jam sessions. Before long, a band had formed!
Though they love music, each member of MIKESCHAIR admits it’s about so much more. “We all really have this desire to be involved in ministry,” Hale says. “We are obviously all really passionate about music, but we always want it to be about something more. We saw that we all had the same heart for this and then God just kept opening doors.”
MIKESCHAIR has experienced a great deal since the release of their debut album. Not only have they toured extensively, they've also maintained their heart for missions to work and be involved with the international relief agencies such as Food for the Hungry and Buckner International; organizations that help at risk orphans. The band members have traveled abroad to Haiti with Food for the Hungry and to South & Central America with Buckner International.
Some bands have to tour a long time to get their big break - but just a few weeks into the band's inception, the guys won Belmont University's Music Showcase competition, got signed to CURB Records, played a ton of shows and got themselves nominated at the Dove Awards for Song of The Year (for Let The Waters Rise).
The Name: How did the name MIKESCHAIR come about? Well, the rest of the guys lived on a different floor of the dorm - but Mike was the epicenter of the band - so the guys bought Mike a chair to make him feel more at home hanging out of their floor of the dorm. Since college boys don't like sharing, Mike put a sign on the chair reading, "Mike's chair."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jadon Lavik
Jadon was born in Redmond, Washington, where he was raised in a Christian home with his parents and two siblings. Although he had some experience with music early in life playing violin and guitar, he was most energized about sports and desired to pursue a baseball career. But after an internship at Saddleback church in Southern California, the calling on his life became glaringly obvious.
Jadon Lavik is a worship leader, a songwriter, a husband and father - he's like you and me, a hundred different things. Just like in life, when writing and recording you hope to find the perfect balance of old and new.
Jadon Lavik's seminary background gives him a true concern with using Biblical theology in his worship songs. It is sometimes easier for a songwriter to go with what feels good. Spiritual candy. But Jadon deals with the depths of God's word in his writings.
Now married with two kids, Jadon ministers in the local church and tours the country playing music whenever he can. He also has three Christmas records - which makes him even cooler in my eyes!

Covenant 31
Pat and Heather Eddolls formed Covenant 31 after God rescued them from darkness. As teenagers, they met at a bar, moved in together and shared a raging drug habit. Their lives were out of control. At 18, Heather found out she was pregnant. She left Pat and went back to church where she had grown up. Pat agreed to go to Church with her. They couple got married while Heather was pregnant with their daughter.
Both accepted Christ and watched in amazement as God transformed their lives of drug abuse and sin into a holy family. But they admit it wasn't easy. The years of transition from teenage rebels to Christ honoring parents and spouses was not easy. They use their band as a chance to share their story of Christ's love and to teach others to worship.
The band's latest album Power In The Name was produced by award winning mega-hit producer Ed Cash. This could be the break-out album that makes Covenant 31 a household name.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jason Gray
Just like Moses, Jason Gray has become a leader in his field despite the odds stacked against him. He grew up as a chronic stutterer in an abusive home, but through the Grace of Jesus Christ, struggles to make his music about loving people.
Jason Gray is from Minnesota (Ducks fly together!). It's cold in Minnesota. He spent six years in youth ministry before going into full time music ministry in 1999. Besides writing and performing his own music, he has collaborated with many other artists including Sara Groves, Andrew Peterson, Joel Hanson, Jason Ingram and more!
His latest album is all about reaching those who feel cast asside. “With all my songs, I want to be conscientious of the person who feels like an outsider, excluded because of their pain. I hope by acknowledging difficulty, heartbreak, and pain that I can cast a line for them to hold onto and be drawn in.”
Jason Gray also struggles with the pressure between art and business. "There is constant pressure in our entertainment oriented culture to be amazing and impressive," Jason says, "to wow audiences with gimmicks, to get on the charts. I wrestle against that because it can be a heart killer and completely irrelevant to God's calling in my life. I'd rather be real than impressive."

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Believer Tour last night! It was incredible!
Wet and cold - but incredible!
ARTIST OF THE DAY
Big Daddy Weave
Formed at the University of Mobile, the quintet—Mike Weaver, Jay Weaver, Joe Shirk, Jeremy Redmon and Jeff Jones—has earned a reputation both for the musical conviction that has carried their songs to the top of the charts and for the joy and passion that have made their live performances such moving and memorable experiences.
The new album Love Come To Life is three years in the making and has literally gone through the fire... A devastating fire swept through guitarist/producer Jeremy Redmon's house and studio. That along with health issues, exhaustion and a number of other trials have served to deepen the faith of this band of brothers (technically Mike and Jay are brothers).
Jeff the drummer adds that this new album is by far the most intimate look into what God has been doing in the lives of the band-members. Mike Weaver says, "This is a record of the realities of life and of how God is faithful, always.”
Big Daddy Weave is:
Mike - Songwriter/Lead Vocals/Guitar
Jeff - Drums
Jay - Bass/Vocals
Joe - Saxophone/Keyboards
Jeremy - Guitars/Vocals

See you Sunday - at THE BELIEVER TOUR!
ARTIST OF THE DAY
Kutless
The first thing you ought to know about Kutless - is that they are rocking Delmarva this Sunday night! The Believer Tour hits the Heron Ponds Amphitheater at 6:30 PM Sunday - be there!
This Oregon based rock group is in the midst of a second musical career. After selling nearly 2 million records and touring the world as a preeminent Christian rock quintet, Kutless found a new voice producing quality worship records.
Their first worship album was Strong Tower - and not only was it a hit with critics and fans, but it revealed the true nature of Kutless' calling - to bring people closer to Jesus. In any industry there is pressure to repeat success and Kutless approached the matter hesitantly. They didn't want to produce another worship record just because everyone loved the first one. The band knew that worship has to be authentic. With much prayer and council from their pastors, Kutless created It Is Well.
Now the band has a new worship album out called Believer. Even with the success the band is having with worship records they want their fands to know that they exist to "..point to Christ and remind us all that there is more to worship than worship albums. We must live a life of worship." - Jon Micah (lead singer of Kutless)
The Name: Christ took our beating and paid the wages of our sin. Romans 6:23. He took our cuts for us leaving us...Kutless.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
All Sons & Daughters
The worship duo of David Leonard and Leslie Jordan was birthed in 2010 from Journey Church located in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee. Jordan and Leonard met at Journey in the summer of 2009, and it was there that they began writing worship songs for their church family. Their evolution into a duo began when they started leading those songs together on Sunday mornings. Both currently serve on staff at Journey as Worship Designers in the Creative Arts Ministry.
Leslie Jordan has been leading worship since age 14, both in her own church and for churches and conferences across the United States. David Leonard grew up in Southeast Arkansas and attended college at John Brown University. While attending the university, Leonard began the Word Records band Jackson Waters. After disbanding in 2008, Leonard began touring with NEEDTOBREATHE, and completed his time with them in May 2010.
In addition to leading worship at their church and events around the country, Leonard and Jordan have lent their voices to the Know Hope Collective, the ground breaking initiative that combines worship music with stories of hope and inspiration created by Audio Adrenaline alums Mark Stuart and Will McGinniss.

Among The Thirsty
Among The Thirsty is Christian Contemporary/Modern Worship/Rock band from the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Formed in 2004 by two high school buddies, Among the Thirsty has developed into a nationally touring band, reaching across the country with their powerful worship, razor sharp rock, and funk. Once coined "The Fab Four of Christian Music", Among the Thirsty has been able to cross age barriers and genre lines to bring a type of music that reaches the entire listening audience.
“Our purpose is to present a unique style of the Gospel to the world through our music. We strive to live a life that is worthy of God's presence, to proclaim the Majesty and Holiness of Christ with our gifts, and to speak words of hope and life to all those who are searching and hurting. We make a strong effort to be straight forward with the gospel and not to be timid when sharing the Good News. All these talents and gifts have been given by the grace of God and from a heart of thankfulness we continue to Thirst for more of Him."
About Wonder: Front-man and lead guitarist, Ryan Daniel says this album was birthed from a heart to reach people with the hope and the love of Christ. The Wonder of God's love is at the foundation of this project.

Matt Maher
Over the past few years Matt Maher has made the transition from full-time ministry at his home church in Mesa, Arizona to life as a respected worship leader with an international platform.
Leaving behind the comfort and security of home is a scary thing. But by following God's call, Maher has had the chance to write some incredible worship songs and work with other gifted worship leaders such as Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Brenton Brown, Audrey Assad, Jars of Clay and Hawk Nelson.
Matt Maher's challenge to those he worships with is, "In a post Christian society, everybody is called to be a missionary wherever we are. The mission field has changed. The mission field is everywhere."
It's not the first time Matt's faith has been challenged by change. Originally he's from Newfoundland, Canada - so Arizona is a wee-bit different. And Matt's mission field is expanding. Last summer he and his wife welcomed their first child. A son, named Michael Conor.
Awards: Matt Maher has been nominated for 6 Dove Awards.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Ginny Owens
Ginny Owens is a three-time Dove Award winner, including the Gospel Music Association’s 2000 New Artist of the Year recipient, and multiple ASCAP Award winner. She has sold nearly one million albums and has topped the charts with several hit songs including If You Want Me To and I Wanna Be Moved. Her music has been featured on television shows and her concerts have impacted the lives of tens of thousands.
And Ginny Owens is blind. That has never stopped her from chasing musical perfection, though. When she sits behind a piano, music flows from her soul and the lyrics ring of Truth. Sometimes that Truth is learned through heartache - sometimes through Joy. She's just like everybody else, except she takes our collective life experiences and turns them into art.
Born and raised in Jackson, MS, Owens was discovering melodies on the piano almost before she could complete a sentence. Sunday school songs and common childhood tunes began to emerge from her fingers even as vision began to leave her eyes. By the age of three, a degenerative eye condition left Ginny completely blind.
Despite her physical challenge, music just made sense to her, quickly becoming a lifeline for both understanding and communication. Songs provided a window into a world Ginny couldn’t see, but they also offered an outlet for her to express her own thoughts, dreams and questions.
Ginny took some time off of touring to go to school in NYC, where much of her new album finds it roots. She says, "One of the greatest lies we tend to believe is that we are unimportant and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But grace changes that."
