ARTIST OF THE DAY
Shane & Shane

Life is a whirlwind for Shane & Shane. After both settling down, getting married and having three kids between the two families, it looked like their national music careers were over. The Shanes took on worship leading at their home church and had resigned themselves to just being local musicians and family men.

But God had other plans. After a season of growing with their church, experiencing fatherhood and impacting lives of young people through discipleship - God began to write songs through Shane & Shane once again. Really good songs. The best songs they had ever written. After sending a demo to some friends in Nashville they immediately got picked up by Fair Trade Records (MercyMe) with whom they've now produced two excellent albums.

For their newest album, Bring Your Nothing, Shane & Shane decided to live the dream of anyone who has ever been in a band.  The guys bought 22 acres of land outside of Dallas, TX and converted an old ranch house into a state of the art studio - which they named Wellhouse Studios.  The Shanes hosted a 7 day retreat with their musical friends and in just one week - the album was written and recorded.

Musical Chairs: Shane Barnard is married to Bethany Dillon, who is also an acclaimed Christian musician.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jason Gray

Jason Gray has become a leader in his field despite the odds stacked against him.  He grew up as a chronic stutterer in an abusive home, but through the Grace of Jesus Christ, struggles to make his music about loving people.

Jason Gray is from Minnesota (Ducks fly together!).  He spent six years in youth ministry before going into full time music ministry in 1999.  Besides writing and performing his own music, he has collaborated with many other artists including Sara Groves, Andrew Peterson, Joel Hanson, Jason Ingram and more!

Jason released a special EP this Spring called Nothing is Wasted, which has a very worshipful tone.  That tone is carrying over into his current songwriting.  Gray is hard at work writing and recording a new full length album this summer.

Author: Jason Gray is also a contributor to The Rabbit Room - a blog/publishing company founded by Andrew Peterson - inspired by The Inklings (CS Lewis, JRR Tolkein, Charles Williams, etc.)

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Luminate

Luminate frontman Sam Hancock (lead vocal/guitar) grew up in Washington, IN, and began leading worship at his church at 14. While Sam continued this role through high school, he also struggled with the same issues of many teens. He calls his late high school years his time of rebellion.

Upon graduation, Hancock was at a crossroads of choosing business school or music school. He chose music and enrolled at the Visible School of Music in Memphis. It was there he met Dusty Jakubik (bass), who was looking for a fresh start after the group he was in fell apart after signing a major label deal.  From there the pieces fell into place, adding additional members to the group that would become Luminate.

The Message: Luminate aims to show people that they have purpose when they think they have none.

The Goal: Reaching the world through song, and to bring hope by example, humility, and truth to a generation filled with apathy and confusion.

The band members:
Samuel Hancock on vocals
Cody Clark on guitar
Dustin DeLong on keys and vocals
Dusty Jakubik on bass
Aaron Matthew on drums.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Echoing Angels

Echoing Angels have survived. After initial success on their INO Records debut album the band hit the road, aiming to take their music and the Gospel to the world. But circumstances led to some serious problems. The band ended their relationship with the record label, they lost their booking agency and their long-time manager passed away. This and some line-up changes should have spelled the end of Echoing Angels, but God had other plans.

The band continued touring and were very open about their challenges. Their songs dealt with reality from the perspective of faith and that connected with listeners. Fans who had lost jobs, loved ones and marriages were eager to hear that they were not alone, and to find community and worship at Echoing Angels concerts.

In the end, the self-titled sophomore release is a rebirth of the band. The songs are meant to be a mouthpiece of optimism, patience, and perhaps most of all, perseverance in God’s plan for each and every listeners’ life.

Facts: The band was initially formed by bassist Josh Armour and drummer Jon Poole under the name Two Bare Feet in 1999. Since its inception, John Poole (JP) is the only remaining original member.

Update: The band is currently on a hiatus, with no future plans locked down.

When's Fall get here?

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Free Chapel

The Mission Statement: We exist for one reason – souls. Our greatest joy is to see people encounter God in a revolutionary way and discover His plans and purposes for their lives.

Free Chapel is one church with three locations (and growing!).  They host worship events from Gainsville, GA - Urvine, CA - and the newest campus is in Suwanee, GA.  Pastor Jentezen Franklin leads this church via telecast from the Gainsville location.

Being an avid saxophone player and worshipper himself, it was from Pastor Franklin's experience that the Free Chapel Music Ministry was born. The vision is to build an army of people who have been gifted by God with musical abilities that can be used corporately to build the Kingdom of God around the world. Currently overseeing the worship ministry at the coast-to-coast campuses is Micah Massey at the Gainesville location and Adam Ranney in Orange County.

Wickham's father is currently a worship leader, and both of his parents were at one time members of Jesus movement band Parable. ARTIST OF THE DAY
Sanctus Real

Sanctus Real formed in Toledo, Ohio, in 1996, when founding members Matt and Chris were just in the 10th grade. Since 2002, they have released five albums through the Sparrow record label - garnered multiple #1 hits, two GRAMMY nomination and landed multiple Dove award wins and even more nominations to boot.

Sanctus Real scored a record deal after High School by loading up their van and heading to Nashville during Gospel Music Association week.  They walked around the convention handing out homemade press kits including their indie release and a week later, the phone was ringing off the hook!

“Making music for the sake of making music never made sense to us,” says Chris Rohman (lead guitar). “Our mission was so clear at the beginning it was almost unspoken. It has been so natural for us to create music that reflects a life lived through faith in God.”

Last chance to clean out that closet...

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Tree 63

Hailing from Durban, South Africa - this pop rock trio spent the last decade touring the world with a message of encouragement for the body of Christ - and hope for those who don't yet know Him. Tree 63's music sounds like a happier U2. They spent much of their career touring with fellow imports, The Newsboys and Rebecca St. James.

While they saw huge success in Australia and the UK - Tree 63 also got plenty of US radio play with hits like Blessed Be The Name and Sunday.  After 12 years together, Tree 63 disbanded - leaving a legacy of great music and lasting friendships around the world.

Lead singer John Ellis struck out on his own with two solo albums: Own Way Home and Rural. The rest of the band packed up their families in Nashville and headed back home to South Africa.

Tree 63 was:

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Alex Edmonds

Alex Edmonds grew up in Crossett, Arkansas.  She accepted Christ at just 9 years old during Vacation Bible School one summer. Ever since then, her focus has been on serving God through her greatest love - music.

Even with growing recognition and opportunities, Alex is focused: "First and foremost my goal is to use the talents God has blessed me with for the enrichment of His Kingdom, that's my utmost priority!"

She also wants to use her position to encourage and reach young girls for Christ - taking up that mantle from the likes of Rebecca St. James, Natalie Grant and Laura Kaczor. Right now she's putting in the time, living on the road visiting and performing at churches. This past year her tour took her over 25,000 miles of the U.S.!

Was it a happy Father's Day?
It was for these guys...

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Josh Wilson

Josh Wilson grew up the son of a preacher in Lubbock, Texas. His debut album Trying to Fit the Ocean in a Cup became one of 2008's biggest success stories. The album was called “the future of Christian pop." and his songs Savior Please and Before the Morning rocked Christian radio coast to coast. In 2012, Josh Wilson released See You and a Christmas album called Noel - both of which have garnered him awards and accolades, along with radio hits.

About Carry Me: In the midst of writing songs for his fourth studio release, Carry Me, Wilson began experiencing severe chest and shoulder pain as well as difficulty breathing, believing he was actually having a heart attack. Yet after numerous negative tests, he tried to get back to his normal life but soon began waking up frantic in the middle of the night, even canceling scheduled performances out of fear. Reconciling these unexpected emotions with his long held beliefs defines Wilson’s intentionally joyful and honestly raw new record.

Skillz: Josh is quite the accomplished musician, playing 20 instruments on his latest record, including, ukulele, hammered dulcimer, and the glockenspiel!

Awards: Last summer at the ASCAP Christian Awards (held in Nashville), Josh Wilson was awarded for his songs I Refuse, Fall Apart and Jesus Is Alive - PLUS at the end of the night we was awarded as the ASCAP's Songwriter/Artist of the Year!

Oh, and Happy Father's Day...

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jars of Clay

Jars of Clay formed in 1994, when Dan Haseltine and Charlie Lowell became friends at Greenville College. By the end of 1995, few had not heard their breakout song Flood. Ever since, this college rock band has pursued their art form with relentless touring, recording and writing.

While Jars of Clay's legacy as great songwriters is cemented, their latest album The Shelter is something a little different. They wanted something new to push their sound and their message past the wall of their own comfort zone. So they grabbed their friends who happen to be amazing song-writers and performers and got some fresh new ideas for song writing and recording. Making cameos as performers and/or song writers on The Shelter: Laura Story, Phillip LaRue, Mac Powell, Amy Grant, Brandon Heath, Leigh Nash, TobyMac, and more!

Blood:Water Mission: Lead singer Dan Haseltine visited Africa in 2002, which in turn inspired the founding of Blood:Water Mission, a non-profit organization created to raise awareness and money for the poverty and AIDS stricken regions of the continent.  The name is derived from, as Haseltine says, "The two things Africa needs most" - clean blood and clean water. B:W kicked off the 1000 Wells project, an effort to have a thousand new wells built throughout Africa and just last year they met their goal of providing clean water to 1,000 African communitiest.  Former Bassist for Jars of Clay Aaron Sands serves as Administrative Director for the project.

Formed in 2004 by two high school buddies, Among the Thirsty has developed into a nationally touring band, reaching across the country with their powerful worship, razor sharp rock, and funk.  Once coined "The Fab Four of Christian Music", Among the Thirsty has been able to cross age barriers and genre lines to bring a type of music that reaches the entire listening audience.

“Our purpose is to present a unique style of the Gospel to the world through our music. We strive to live a life that is worthy of God's presence, to proclaim the Majesty and Holiness of Christ with our gifts, and to speak words of hope and life to all those who are searching and hurting. All these talents and gifts have been given by the grace of God and from a heart of thankfulness we continue to Thirst for more of Him."

Both he and two of his brothers went to Florida State University on FULL BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIPS!  FSU has a tremendous reputation in the world of college baseball - these guys are talented - Two of them went pro!  In fact, Jonny's brother Matt plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates! But a year into college, Jonny found his calling was music and not playing ball. Turning away from a full ride, he focused on what God called him to do - and it is paying off in spades!

From the beginning of his music career, Diaz’s desire has been to write songs that entertain, encourage and challenge fellow believers.  Jonny Diaz on writing songs: “I attempted to break free from some of the traditional confines of Christian music, but I couldn’t get away from the fact that most of my songs revolve around my relationship with Christ. ARTIST OF THE DAY
Cheri Keaggy

Beginning as a worship leader at a small church in Southern California, Cheri Keaggy has ministered through music and testimony for twenty years.  Her debut album, Child of the Father, was released to rave reviews in 1994 earning her a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year.

Countless conferences, eight albums, nine #1 songs, three Dove Award nominations and a Dove Award win later, Cheri is back with a new album fueled by one of the darkest periods of her life.

Her new songs were penned following the end of her nearly twenty-three year marriage to her high school sweetheart, Eddie Keaggy (nephew to CCM pioneer Phil Keaggy).  Many of the songs are reminiscent of some of David's Psalms; forlorn, hurt, but faithful.

Cheri says,  “If God can use our challenges and heartaches to build character that makes us more effective for the Kingdom, than that’s what I want.  He can use me however He sees fit.”

Family Life: Cheri’s son, Cameron is now married, while her daughter, Sarah, still lives at home in Franklin, TN.  Cheri enjoys reading, writing, and walking her beloved shih-tzu, Daisy Doo.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Andy Cherry

Andy is a worship leader at a mega-church in North Carolina, CharlotteOne.  His songs are first and foremost, worship anthems.  They were born out of a desire to get God's people asking hard questions about their faith - putting in the work - becoming desperate for God's will, no matter what the cost.

Worship Revelation: One morning, leading worship at church, Andy was silently wishing to be anywhere else.  He was tired and felt like nothing he was doing mattered.  It was then that God revealed to him, Hey Andy, I don't need you to do this.  I want you to. Andy decided it would be best to get on board with what God is doing, rather than try to make music about himself.

Family: Andy is the youngest of four siblings. All sisters.

Beloved

This trio was born out of a Sunday School class at a church in metro Atlanta (Roswell Street Baptist Church). Originally it was just Kim singing at churches, but when she met Amy and Denise the three fused into an inseparable trio!

Beloved's latest album (Way You Been Loved) is a bit of a departure from previous records. It's still got some Southern Gospel roots, but with a modern twist. Kim Hardee says, "Sonically we wanted to create music that was more in line with what we like to sing and listen to. And lyrically we wanted to challenge ourselves and our listeners to get out there and live the life God intended for us."

Although Beloved began solely as a singing group, over the years they have grown to be that and much more. In addition to writing, recording and producing CDs, they speak and sing to thousands of women annually in conferences and events where they entertain, inspire and encourage. In 2007 they began hosting an annual womens conference and in 2009, their entrepreneurial spirit led them to develop their own cosmetic line, Beloved Beauty, which has been wildly successful, both at live events and online.

Beloved is:
Kim Hardee
Amy Goins
Denise Clark

Fun Fact: Kim Hardee is a former Miss Georgia pageant winner. No word on what her talent was at the competition...

Don't forget - this weekend is the BIG YARD SALE!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Robbie Seay Band

The Robbie Seay Band is based out of Houston’s Ecclesia Church. Robbie's brother Chris is the lead pastor at this very different style of church. While they hold traditional church services, during the week the building is used to aid the homless in Houston and to treat many types of addictions.  Plus they are a functioning farmer’s market, art gallery, coffeehouse, and recording studio.

Forgoing the Nashville scene and record label, Robbie's latest album was recorded independently at his church and they are literally giving it away!  You can download it for free on NoiseTrade.
