Wednesday is like Evaluation Day.
How has your week been?
How can you make it better?
See, evaluations can be enlightening!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Kristian Stanfill

Kristian Stanfill was like a lot of teenage kids growing up in the suburbs in the 90’s in a fairly typical American home. He went to church, loved music, and even taught himself to play guitar. As soon as the church youth group heard he could play a few chords, he immediately became the so-called “Worship Leader.” He learned songs by DC Talk and Audio Adrenaline, and eventually Passion and Chris Tomlin.

Those kids who needed a worship leader could not have known they had chosen someone called and gifted by God to lead a generation. Someone who would grow not just to teach Passion songs to his youth group, but also to tour with multi-platinum selling artist Chris Tomlin and take the stage at Passion conferences and the Passion World Tour, reaching audiences numbering in the hundreds of thousands.

The Call has been unmistakable in Stanfill’s life, even as that 15-year-old growing up in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta, finding the connection between the strings of a guitar and the Maker of music.

Did you run the Joymazing Race?
THANK YOU!
We have the greatest listeners and family of supporters in the WORLD!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Josh Wilson

Josh Wilson grew up the son of a preacher in Lubbock, Texas. His debut album Trying to Fit the Ocean in a Cup became one of 2008's biggest success stories. The album was called “the future of Christian pop." and his songs Savior Please and Before the Morning rocked Christian radio coast to coast. This February, Josh Wilson released See You.

“Faith is being sure of what we hope and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

The tension between faith and sight is what See You is all about. Josh is quite the accomplished musician, playing 20 instruments on the record, including, ukulele, hammered dulcimer, and the glockenspiel!

I Refuse evolved as Josh was reading David Platt’s book, Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream. While reading the book, Nashville was hit with a huge flood. It was devastating to Josh's community and spurred him to not just cop out with prayer and go along his merry way - but to step out in action to help his community.

Through his father's work with the United States Department of State, he also spent time in Ecuador and Barbados. It is from his heritage and classical training at The University of New Mexico where Ortega derives his unique sound, embracing country, classical, Celtic, Latin American, world, modern folk and rustic hymns.

He is a noted songwriter and performer due to his interpretations of many traditional hymns and songs, such as "Give Me Jesus" and "Be Thou My Vision." over his storied career, Ortega has released 17 albums and appeared on numerous compilations and worship projects (including City on a Hill). ARTIST OF THE DAY
Relient K

Relient K formed in 1998 in Canton, Ohio by Matt Thiessen, Brian Pittman, and Matt Hoopes[1] during the band's junior year in high school and their time at Malone University. The band is named after guitarist Hoopes' automobile, a Plymouth Reliant K car. Despite being a Christian band the group has performed alongside secular artists - including several stints on the Warped Tour.

Since its formation, Relient K has released six studio albums, seven EPs, two Christmas albums, and one collection of rarities. Their latest album Relient K Is For Karaoke is an EP of 80s covers. The band has received numerous awards including a Grammy Award nomination in 2003 for Best Rock Gospel Album and two Dove Awards.

Some musicians focus on women's ministry, missions and worship. Relient K has always focused on a joyful exuberance that draws in kids and teens. They take seriously their position as role models, but try not to get caught up in the seriousness of life. Listen to any Relient K album and not only will you find yourself wanting to dance around, it is near impossible to wipe the silly grin off your face.

Relient K is:

Matt Thiessen: Lead vocals/Guitars/Piano
Matt Hoopes: Guitars/Vocals
Jon Schneck: Guitars/Banjo/Bells/Omnichord/
Nord/Vocals
John Warne: Bass/Vocals
Ethan Luck: Drums/Vocals

Downhere

Downhere is actually from up there - Canada. Or as I like to call the Great White North - North Minnesota. Jason and Marc - co-lead singers of Downhere - met in college and have been laughing, writing and playing music together for over a decade. It's that friendship and sense of calling that keeps Downhere plugging away, even though the past decade has been anything but kind to the recording industry.

The band has been nominated for dozens of Dove Awards, Juno Awards, Covenant Awards and more. Sure most of those awards are "Canadian" but that doesn't make it less impressive. I mean how many awards have you been nominated for? That's what I thought...

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jessa Anderson

Jessa Anderson is a twenty-something married mom from Michigan who is living a dream right now. To be a working singer/songwriter releasing her second label offering is an overwhelming blessing. Drawing from an influential pool of strong female songwriters such as Sara Groves, Nichole Nordeman and Ginny Owens, Anderson’s music reflects a constant wrestling with the unknown and the darkest parts of humanity right alongside the gritty, everyday things that make up the human life.

Things Jessa Loves:
her adorable daughter Lorelei (whose name was inspired by a “Gilmore Girls” character), Nashville, songwriting, traveling, honest conversations and missions.

Things Jessa Disloves
: playing sports, going anywhere without her family by her side, bad days, and things out of her control.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Heather Williams

Heather Williams grew up in extreme poverty with her mom and stepfather. Throughout her early childhood, she suffered intense abuse and was even chained to a tree for punishment in one instance. Her mother gave her away at age 11, and Williams went to live with her grandfather in Michigan. Living with little guidance and the pain of past abuse and rejection, Williams turned to drugs and alcohol as a way to numb the realities of life. As things began to spiral out of control, the young teenager began to have thoughts of suicide and was even homeless at one point.

At age 18, however, the dangerous road Williams was on took a U-turn when she briefly reconnected with her birth father. Her father, a Christian, invited Williams to church.
“I came to this place where it was either, OK, I’m going to give my life to God, or I just don’t know if I’m going to live. So, I walked up that aisle at that church, and I gave my life to God.”

Having grown up with a love of music, after becoming a Christian, Williams says she began to write songs from a perspective of radical change. But then another wave of tragedy struck the budding singer/songwriter when her first child passed away shortly after he was born.
“I didn’t want my son’s death to be in vain. The Bible says He has a purpose for every life, for every person; and I knew that was the same for even a 6-month-old baby,” she continues. “So, I said, ‘OK, what’s the purpose here? God, just use me.’ He started to pour into me these songs of just crying out to Him. I’ve had this awakening to God and who He is in my life and who I am in Him.”

For Williams, she describes her songs as “conversations,” sometimes joyful, sometimes angry, sometimes a mix of both. Today, Williams is grateful for how far grace has brought her. She and her husband, a full-time youth pastor, live in Florida with their two young children.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Kerrie Roberts

Kerrie Roberts is a big voice in an itty bitty package. Growing up singing in church, she'd often have to stand on a crate so that people sitting further back than the front row could see where this powerful voice was coming from! Kerrie's dad was a pastor and her mom the choir director for their church. Being front and center in church was bred into her from birth!

Kerrie began writing her first songs in high school, performing one during her own graduation. When the time came for college, Kerrie chose to get her degree in Studio Music and Jazz Vocal Performance at the University of Miami. “Little kids have dreams. For me, it was ‘I’m going to be a singer.’ And I never grew out of it.”

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Big Daddy Weave

Mike Weaver is a big guy, hence the name Big Daddy Weave! Simple, funny, slightly self depreciating - and yet once you get past the fun of simply saying "Big Daddy Weave!" you find a worship band that is sincere in there desire to lead others to throne of God.

BDW's fifth studio album What Would It Be Like is all about Grace - something they all feel is missing in a lot of today's evangelical churches: “We all grew up in church,” Mike explains. “That is awesome, and I’m thankful for it, but there is also some baggage that comes with that. We grew up hearing people talk about grace, but there seemed to be an unspoken law that said, ‘but you also have to do this, this, this, this, and this.’ Nobody ever said it out loud, but I saw how people who didn’t do ‘this, this, this, this, and this’ were treated."

What Would It Be Like is a question asked to the Church - what if we really practiced what we preach? It might sound cynical, but it is asked from an admission of guilt - and an inspiring hope of what we are called to be.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Avalon

Avalon by the Numbers:
4 million records sold
21 chart topping singles
13 albums
6 Dove Awards
3 Grammy nominations
1 American Music Award

So who has that sort of success and says "I think we need to shake things up a bit?" That's exactly what Avalon did with their latest album Reborn. As artists they wanted to be more than just relevant, but to push the envelope and deliver music with a message that will reach the world.

Avalon was formed in 1995 by Grant Cunningham, A&R director at Sparrow Records. Cunningham was in search of a vocal group that could sing tight harmonies and carry God's message to the world. He pooled talent from mega group Truth and other struggling soloists to form the harmony driven vocal group - and its been a whirlwind of excellence for the last 16 years!

The beginning of the end of the week...
So really, the beginning of the weekend!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Third Day

Multi-platinum-selling rock band Third Day has played to millions of fans in numerous sold-out arenas around the world. It’s garnered 25 No. 1 singles across multiple formats—not to mention armloads of Grammy and Dove Awards. Yet Third Day’s most valued accomplishment is their willingness to struggle openly before fans and critics alike to show God's presence in all they do.

Influenced by the Southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd and other artists such as U2 and Rich Mullins, Third Day were originally formed in the mid-90s by vocalist Mac Powell and acoustic guitarist Mark Lee. The duo added bassist Tai Anderson and drummer David Carr from another local band, and recorded some demos. Third Day's live shows gradually built a loyal fan base, and just after lead guitarist Brad Avery joined, the band signed to Gray Dot Records in 1996.

15 years later the band is still plugging away - winning awards - touring the world - and living as transparent as possible.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Shane & Shane

An acoustic duo? Right... And yet with the success of Shane & Shane it's practically its own genre in Christian music now. Shane & Shane earned their spot in the Christian music pantheon with a lot of hard work. For most of their careers the duo has averaged 250-300 shows per year! Somehow within the hectic touring and radio promotions the two both got married and started families - in fact Shane B. married Bethany Dillon! So when their tour comes to town, expect to see toddlers running around amidst sound equipment.

About The One You Need:
"As new parents, there is ONE thing we want our little girls to know - one man - the only One who can satisfy her every need, the only One who can provide life happily ever after. That’s Jesus. Seeing the world through the eyes of a father changes our focus. The broken things become clear and even our own fallible natures are seen in a new light. Sobering truths like this should lead us into a deeper faith in the only One who is not broken, but was broken for us, the children of God. This is the reality we long for our daughters and sons to live in - that Jesus is the one they need." - Shane & Shane

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Leeland

Leeland is celebrated as one of Christian music’s most gripping live bands. In fact, their upcoming album The Great Awakening was recorded live in the studio - instead of piecing it together like most albums. They wanted to really capture the feel four musicians worshiping together.

This Texas band has always sought honesty in everything they do. Honest melodies. Honest lyrics. Honest performances. That sort of heart focus landed GRAMMY nominations for their first two records and a slew of Dove awards.

When Leeland’s not on the road, band members continue to lead worship at the Baytown, Texas church the Mooring’s parents began pastoring six years ago. The band also serves regularly in their community’s Gulf Coast emergency preparedness programs and at a local food pantry which feeds hundreds of people each week.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Newsong

When Eddie Carswell and Billy Goodwin, who continue to lead the evolving group, started out in 1981 at Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia, neither of them imagined NewSong would repeatedly outdo itself for so many years. After all, with the exception of U2, what band sees its third decade eclipse its first two? 20 #1 Christian radio hits - Dove Awards and nominations - GRAMMY nominations - They guys are headed into their fourth decade of music and just keep getting better!

Most bands that remember the hay-day of the music industry have a hard time embracing the new world order; a world where people download singles, don't always buy full albums and expect something spectacular at a concert or they'll just watch video footage posted on YouTube. But Newsong embraced the change - leading the charge amongst Christian groups by frequently offering free downloads and founding the WinterJam tour - which has featured a full festival line-up of the best Christian music has to offer - all for around $5 a head!

Mondays aren't inherently bad.
They are a fresh start! A new beginning!
We just have to decide what to begin...

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Switchfoot

"Switchfoot" is a surfing term. Lead singer/songwriter Jon Foreman says "We all love to surf and have been surfing all our lives so to us, the name made sense. To switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It's about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music."

I grew up listening to Switchfoot. The San Diego band debuted in the Mid-90s with Legend of Chin and their hit song Chem 6-A immediately became an anthem for my youth group. Mandy Moore performed the Switchfoot song Only Hope for the movie Walk To Remember, Which my wife and I used in our wedding.

Switchfoot has carefully walked the line of being Christians who found success in the secular market, but uncomfortable with the way big record labels work, the band decided to walk away from a multi-album deal - comfort and stability - to become one of the most successful independent bands in the music industry. They live with their families in San Diego, produce on their terms and organize their own world tours.

Parents are you anxiously counting the days?

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Anthem Lights

“As followers of Christ, we were not made for this world,” explains Anthem Lights member Alan Powell. “We don’t belong here. And all the self-doubt and insecurity and struggling to fit in, it’s all part of believing the lie that we’re supposed to be ‘at home’ here. - The closer we get to Christ, to being what we were created to be in this world, our value of what this world values begins to fade.”

Anthem Lights can trace its roots back to the fall of 2007, when singer/songwriter Alan Powell joined forces with then aspiring solo artist Chad Graham. Both were living in Los Angeles at the time, to pen songs for Chad’s solo effort. But providentially, the more they wrote, the more it became clear that these powerful, harmonic songs were meant for a group. Within a matter of days, the pieces fell into place, when two other Liberty University students—Caleb Grimm and Kyle Kupecky—came on board.

“It comes down to the three things we love: music, entertainment, and Jesus... And the greatest of these is Jesus." - Kyle Kupecky

Blending influences from DC Talk to Justin Timberlake and everything in between - Anthem Lights is a pop experience with a message far deeper than anyone expects.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Starfield

Starfield is a Canadian Christian music group from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The group has songs and albums that have charted in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They have won multiple GMA Canada Covenant Awards (Canada's Dove Awards), received four Juno nominations, five Vibes, and the Prairie Music Award for best Christian album.

The band started out making demos in a friend's basement, resulting into their first two independent albums Starfield and Tumbling After, which sold more than 20,000 units in Canada alone.
"The fact that we sold any CD's to more people than just friends and family, or that we won any awards, still blows my mind," says Tim Neufeld (lead vocals, guitar).

Crazy Story:
In 2008, Starfield was performing a concert in British Columbia, when the floor collapsed and a lighting scaffold fell under fans dancing in front of the stage. A number of concert-goers, mostly youth, fell through the floor into the basement. More than 40 people were injured, several seriously, but there were no fatalities. When the floor collapsed, Neufeld threw his microphone aside and jumped down about 10 feet to help the victims below.

Following the trend of other great worship bands, the guys in Starfield want you to take their music and play it for your worship services! On their website you can download the chord charts to their songs - for FREE!

It was just a few years ago that her debut My Paper Heart blew Christian radio out of the water - landing 4 major - And then her music spread like wildfire on TV shows including ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, NBC’s The Biggest Loser, FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance, TLC's Kate Plus 8, MTV’s The Hills and the Style Network's Running in Heels, on promos for the movie Julie & Julia and on the AOL Music home page, among many others. The release was the biggest-seller for a debut Christian artist in nearly a decade and the longest-running #1 for a female artist in Billboard Christian Album Chart history.

Her sophomore album (Hundred More Years) shows growth as an artist and a person. No longer a single girl in her early twenties - now Francesca is married, a mom and a bonifide super star! Talk about pressure! But the album came together and already has generated a hit in the song This is the Stuff. Her new single is called Motion of Mercy - listen for it on Joy 102.5!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
The Swift

The Swift began as a group of teenagers just trying to kill time. The band changed featured musicians and names swiftly. Before becoming The Swift, the core group of musicians went by the following names: Christ Denomination, Regeneration X, Second Nature, Zaccheus Tree and Puddlegum. Finally in 2002, they settled on The Swift when they signed with Flicker Records.

After a successful run of touring, a couple of albums and moving from Flicker Records to Rocketown, The Swift ended their run in 2006. Several former members still work in the music industry and some work in church ministry.

Founding member Britt Edwards says about The Swift, "I would hope that when its all said and done, our music draws people to the character and kindness of Christ. I hope that those who know Him would be encouraged to be more like Him and others would be drawn to meet Him."

The Swift members:

Britt Edwards
Matt Wilder

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Addison Road

Jenny Chisolm met Ryan Simmons at Baylor University in Waco, TX. They began writing songs together not long after the group started booking a few gigs. Ryan played acoustic guitar and Jenny sang. It became apparent that they needed a full band, so they enlisted a couple of friends: Jay Henderson on drums, and a friend from church, Ryan Gregg, on lead guitar. Thus was born The Jenny Chisolm Band.

In 2002, Ryan and Jenny were married, and they moved to Dallas to become a full-time band. Eventually they changed their name to "Addison Road." It was named after a sound tech who had a baby named Addison. They liked the name Addison and put Road at the end of it for no real reason. Jenny just didn't want to be the moniker that the band went by anymore.

The band's line-up has shifted from time to time, but Jenny and Ryan are still at the core. in 2010 the band held a YouTube competition to fill an opening on drums! After many tryouts, the band invited Richard Scott into Addison Road! Pretty cool way to join an established Christian group!
