Have you ever noticed how different style of music impact your mood? This morning I put on one of my favorite Christian emo-core bands (Blindside) to pump me up on my short commute (Joy In The Morning was already off). I was fired up - ready to attack the day!

Then, as I prepared for this afternoon's Joy Ride, I listened to the new album from Brooke Fraser (a Hillsong United veteran) called "Flags." It is a softer, introspective, worshipful album. It made me feel like it was 50 degrees outside and I had a cup of hot chocolate in my hands as I sat by a roaring fire.

I love taking a daily musical journey through emotion and mindset. My encouragement to you is to not limit yourself to one musical style. Experience the beauty of variety. God has blessed artists in every musical arena - and they create passion in spades.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Fike & Dana

Richie (Fike to his friends) and Dana Fike fell in love at first sight. After a short courtship the musical duo tied the knot (back in 1999). They immediately began writing music together with their band FaceDown. They spent a few years touring with other groups, including Shane & Shane, The Robbie Seay Band and many others in the burgeoning worship fueled Christian music industry.

During those years of touring, Fike felt called to pursue a life of local church ministry. God impressed upon his heart the value of the local church and the impact he could have on a family of believers through songwriting, leading worship and developing relationships. In 2002, the Fikes moved to Colorado Springs to join the ministry of Vanguard Church. It was there that they were inspired to write worship songs for their church.

Since settling down, the couple has recorded a couple of independent worship albums, and seen some radio success, as well as Gospel Music Association attention at their annual Rocky Mountain radio conference. The success has the couple touring and playing conferences again.
Fun Fact:
Fike's long time musical love is Hip Hop
Dana loves Country music
So she's a little bit country and he's a little bit thug life.
