#29. Best beach street in Ocean City: 65th Street. It’s easy to get to off Route 90, not as crowded, and a beautiful beach.

This was sent in by a listener, and I've actually been to the beach at 65th Street. There was convenient free parking, not a lot of traffic, gorgeous beaches, restaraunts nearby - it really is a great spot to spend a few hours on the beach! Disagree with this being the best spot? Send your beach spot in!

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Chris Lee

Proving that it isn't exactly what you know, but who you know in the music industry, Chris Lee got his start via Christian music legend Michael English. Originally from Washington DC, Chris Lee spent some of his childhood touring with his family, singing in churches throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Danny spent a few years in Virginia leading worship before heading to Nashville to become a struggling artist.

Chris settled down, got married and was looking to leave the music industry when lightning struck (in the form of Michael English). Chris began touring with English as an opening performer and background vocalist. Hey - that's how Michael W. Smith got his start (background and keyboards for Amy Grant)!

The last few years have not been the break-out that Chris Lee hoped for. He is not currently recording or touring, but you can check out his music here: http://www.myspace.com/christopherlee001

"Oh what a glorious day, what a glorious way that you have saved me!" - Tim Hughes

I love worship time. I especially love joy-filled praise songs. Introspection has its place, but I love to let my hands fly into the air and jump up and down in praise to my King. I love the moment of passion, crying out to Jesus. But praise and worship is not about me. It's about Him. I'm guilty of using times of worship as if they are therapy for my bruised soul. While worship is healing, and our hearts yearn for it - it is a challenge for me (and perhaps for you?) to make those times of celebration an actual sacrifice of praise.

#28. Smelling salt water

The first trip I ever took on the Eastern Shore I had terrible seasonal allergies. My head was buzzing from Benedryl and my nose was running as fast as my drainage. It was terrible. Until I hit the beach, and instantly I could breath! My head opened up. It was like a miracle cure. Perhaps when Jesus said we are to be the salt of the earth, he meant we were to be like an ocean breeze, bringing clarity to a stuffy world...

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Chris "Dwayne" Tomlin

Chris Tomlin currently owns the title of "most sung worship artist in American churches." He surpassed Bill Gaither - who owned the title for decades. In the mid-90s Tomlin led worship for evangelist Dawson McAllister, and joined Loui Giglio in the late 90s to create the Passion Conference. He's also been a part of Hillsong conferences. So for the last 20 years, he's been at the forefront of every major worship movement in Christian pop culture.

This Texas native has led worship around the world. You probably sing one of his songs at your church. "Indescribable," "How Great Is Our God," "Forever" - all of those, Tomlin hits. My church sings them all. All the time.

Back in 2007, filmmakers approached Chris Tomlin to record a new version of "Amazing Grace" for a film about the abolition of slavery in England. Tomlin launched himself into the history of the song, discovering multiple verses that had been lost to time. His version of "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)" was featured on the soundtrack of the movie "Amazing Grace" and stands as one of the greatest versions of the classic hymn ever recorded.

Today in staff devotion we got off topic (Job) - which happens a lot - and started debating some interesting things. It got me thinking about how differences in opinions over non-salvation related issues in the Bible and History can cause unfortunate riffs in the body of Christ.

It's my hope that here on the Eastern Shore we can be united through our faith in Christ and not divided on other religious and spiritual issues. I also hope that great debates and discussions can still happen! It's fun and often times insightful.

#27. Delmar Pizza

Everyone has different tastes in pizza (like Mexican food and Chinese food). Delmar Pizza and Pasta was called "[the] best pizza I've ever had!" by Jackquelyn - a listener who emailed me with a suggestion for the list (I do like suggestions!). She recommends their veggie pizza. Is it the best? I'll leave that up to you!

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

It's Tuesday! Hooray! I sometimes through a rogue "hooray" into conversations, just to try and pick up the tempo. It's not a holiday - it's not close to the weekend - there's really not much happening on this Tuesday. But you know what? We can make it something memorable!

On a more personal note, my daughter turned half-a-year old today. I might eat some cake on her behalf.

#26. The Chincoteague Wild Pony Swim
This is about as unique as it gets in the lower 48! Tomorrow morning, ranchers will herd wild ponies, direct descendants of Spanish horses, across the Assateague Channel, and then some of the ponies will be auctioned off! I wonder if this is where the whole "I want a pony" thing came from ...

NewSong

While the group isn't "new" by any stretch of the imagination, these guys continue to pop out albums and tour like whirling dervishes (Google it, kids)! They created Winter Jam - a huge annual national tour - and are always top billing, even when TobyMac or MercyMe hop on the tour.

NewSong has been recording and performing for nearly 30 years! Their latest project marks the return of front-man Russ Lee after a 10 year solo career. Russ Lee marks his return saying, “At the end of the day, the goal for NewSong has always been to share the Gospel and to make sure everyone knows that Christianity is a relationship of Hope that’s for anyone.”

The latest album (#12): Give Yourself Away. Which ironically cost money.

#25. YMCA Salisbury - indoor and outdoor pool, plus many sports for kids and adults!

Recently the YMCA changed their name to just "The Y." I bet it doesn't catch on. It totally ruins the song. With the heat we've been feeling for a couple of weeks, I figured a community pool might be just what we all need!

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Leeland

Texas does things big. Big land. Big steaks. Big worship music! Rising star worship group Leeland hails from Baytown, TX. Their musical stlye? BIG! Sweeping anthems of praise, rock n roll, and the ever gentle ballad of worship - all of that crushed into each album the band has released!

Leeland and Jack Mooring are the two brothers that hold the band together. (Jack is married to Michael W. Smith's daughter Whitney - they just had a baby!) Melodic, fun, passionate - all words used to describe the band's latest offering "Love is on the Move." This fall they join Sanctus Real and The Afters on the Hungry For Love Tour.

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Kari Jobe

Kari was only 3 when she started singing in church, with her father who was a traveling minister. She holds a degree from Dallas Baptist University in psychology, but studied worship in the church field, as well as at Oral Roberts University and Christ for the Nations. She is currently a worship pastor at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, along with her music ministry around the world.

Some people just know their calling - and Kari sensed worship as her calling since the age of 10. (When I was 10, I wanted to be an intergallactic bounty hunter) Although she did not write the song, her version of "Revelation Song" brought the now popular worship tune to the forefront.

Plus, you know, she's super-cute.

#23. Chicken necking.

When I was first introduced to this term, I thought of a farmer ringing chicken necks. Terrifying. I like meat, but I don't want to stare into its eyes, you know? But chicken necking is far less disgusting than that - though not exactly how I'd like to pass my time off. You tie a chicken neck on some rope, and use it to crab. Simple. It's an effective way to get crabs on a small scale, and aparently more exciting than standard fishing (or the way I do it: Stand around for hours without a single nibble).

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Audio Adrenaline

The holy trinity of Christian radio during the late 90s was DC Talk, The Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline. Without those three bands, we'd still be suffering through endless Clay Cross and Margaret Becker ballads. Don't get me wrong, they have their time and place - but as for me and my family, we'll sing and dance to "Big House."

I asked Will McGinniss of Audio A one time if he minded playing Big House all of the time. A nearly 20 year career filled with hits, though none bigger than this one catchy tune - requested over and over and over. He showed great wisdom in answering me "Would I love to never hear that song again? Absolutely! But I'm not going to complain about playing it because it has paid the bills for two decades!"

Audio A no longer tours, though they still produce music through their record label and are actively involved in the Nashville music scene.

Since 2004, McGinniss and Stuart have focussed on speaking around the US and supporting their Hands and Feet Project. They have built an orphanage and school in Haiti and are raising funds for a project in Nicaragua.

It's hot, hot, hot outside! When I moved here from Southeast Louisiana, everyone promised me four seasons, but I thought "surely Summer won't be too summery ..." I was wrong!

#22. A day in St. Michael’s

I recently changed my car registration to Maryland, and received two new plates for my vehicle. They were both celebrating the War of 1812. I love them because they look very patriotic and I actually have a degree in History. St. Michael's apparently played a pivotol role in the War of 1812, defending the Eastern Shore from the British.

I love historic old(e) towns. I think they showcase the perseverence of America - and St. Michael's shows that The Eastern Shore isn't afraid to fire some cannons into the Bay to defend our livelihood!

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Laura Story

Laura has a story similar to many who were raised in church. She prayed the sinner's prayer at a very young age, convinced by a pastor it was the only way out of Hell. But later on, as a teenager doing mission work, came to a deeper understanding of what it meant to love and follow Christ.

Laura aspired to be a symphony conductor, but once she penned "Indescribable" and it was recorded by Chris Tomlin, it became aparent that she was meant to write and record worship music!

#21. A ton of local fresh fruit & veggies.
Do not take fresh produce for granted! Frozen, canned, South American - that is what the rest of the country is forced to eat. No wonder Americans don't eat their vegetables! A little olive oil, salt, and pepper - toss just about any vegetable on the grill and you've got something worthy of the Food Network - simply because of the freshness of the ingredients. ARTIST OF THE DAY:
V Music

V Music is the worship ministry of Victory Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They are a group of musicians, singers, dancers, audio & video artists, and songwriters who have committed to taking the creativity that God has given them, and use it to give back to Him.

It wasn’t until Jennifer Crow, the band leader, experienced a life changing illness and then complete healing by the power of God and prayer that VMusic's songwriting ministry began to be developed. Out of the healing that she experienced, she began to write songs expressing the love and thanksgiving that flowed out of her heart to God.

Christian recording artist Kristy Starling joined VMusic and began leading worship at Victory Church in 2006 when her husband Adam joined the Pastoral team at Victory.

Happy Monday, JoyRiders! I hope that your weekend was extravagant, or at the very least, enjoyable. But now we are back to the work at hand. A new week filled with possibilities and opportunities. Who knows what God has in store for us? I mean last week, He shook up Washington DC with an earthquake! Did that freak anybody else out? Earthquakes are supposed to happen in California and the other side of the world, not 20 miles across the bay ...

#20. McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield

A hospital, you say? Yes. A gift of healthcare to Somerset county. I recently received an email containing the history of McCready Memorial, and I think you'll agree - it's worth making the list of what makes The Eastern Shore so great!

How McCready Became a Hospital…

McCready Memorial Hospital, with its beautiful campus on the banks of the Annemessex River and the Daugherty Creek Canal in Crisfield, came to be, literally, by accident. Here’s the story:

On a late summer Sunday in 1919, Chicago residents Edward M. McCready, his young daughter Suzanne and the child’s nurse were leaving their family’s home in Crisfield. They planned to meet Edward’s wife Caroline in Atlantic City before returning to their winter home for the school
year.

Their journey was interrupted by a terrible accident.

Edward’s car and a morning passenger train bound for Crisfield collided at a crossing in Westover with a force so great that his automobile overturned a box car. Eight-year-old Suzanne was alive, but died en route to a tiny, storefront hospital called the General and Marine, back in Crisfield. Her father and her nurse were killed instantly. Their bodies were also brought to the little hospital.
Caroline McCready, summoned from Atlantic City, arrived there Sunday morning. She was greeted by Nurse Florence Smith who took her to view the bodies of her family. As Caroline turned back to the nurse, she asked a question: “How much?”

“Why Mrs. McCready,” Nurse Smith replied, “you have no bill from us. We are very sorry we could not have done more.”

Mrs. McCready, tears in her eyes, took Mrs. Smith’s hands in hers and replied: “You and the people of Crisfield will be paid.”
Two weeks later, the widow announced that she would build and donate a hospital to the city in memory of her husband. In 1921, Mrs. McCready purchased the land – Cork Point on the Annemessex River. In 1923, the hospital she built, the Edward M. McCready Memorial Hospital, opened – her gift to the people of Crisfield. In the years since 1923, McCready Hospital was expanded several times.

So you see, a generous spirit has helped thousands of lives for over three quarters of a century! MMH makes the list of 102.5 Shore Things as a reminder to be generous, and perhaps our legacy will be one of this magnitude one day.

Have something to add to the list? I'd love for you to email me your ideas: jmillwood@wolc.org

Jason Allen Rich (JAR?)

This Iowa boy now calls Atlanta home, where he leads worship and writes and records music. He and his wife Bailey Rae have two dogs, Gracie Rae and Beau Peep. Bailey runs "The Recycled Shop," an online store featuring her artistic takes on repurposed items.

Jason got his start as a competitor on American Idol. While he didn't win AI, he scored a record contract and the opportunity to make music for a living. Jackpot!

Jason Allen Rich's latest single is called "In The Stillness." He's hoping to turn this song into a full album, that is if you'll go to his website and buy a copy of the song for $1.50.

Sound the trumpets! Friday has arrived! What does your weekend look like? Are you a weekend warrior? Is it all fun in the sun? I'm going to try a mixture of both. This weekend I'll start painting in my house, but also try to head out to Rehobeth for some shopping and beach sitting.

Soapbox time: I really wish paint companies would create an affordable product that was such a high quality paint that you don't need to prime before applying, yet get the desired color with just one coat. Is that asking too much? Seriously!

#19. The sound of waves hitting sand.

Don't take that sound for granted. I grew up in a neighborhood where the sounds out the window were traffic, ambulances, and occasional gunfire. That can stress a kid out! There are few sounds more delightfully calming than waves rolling out along the shore. It's both powerful and serene. It lowers my blood pressure instantly! It also reminds me of how God often times chooses to speak - in a still small voice, filled with power and authority.

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Todd Agnew

Todd Agnew modeled his early career after Rich Mullins. He was a lone gun, describing his methodology as, "I've always been kind of the hammer - walk in, speak the truth, blow up the town, walk off and let all the pastors apply that truth or pick up the pieces." If you've seen him in concert you know that he isn't afraid to stop mid-song and tell the crowd exactly how he feels.

But in 2008 Todd went from flying solo all over the world to owning a home, getting married, and becoming a step-dad. You can imagine that changes your perspective. His latest album "Need" is filled with a sense of Joy, Hope, and Love that had been missing in both Todd's life and his music.

I'll be honest, the whole "boardwalk" thing is new to me. The beaches I grew up on were just sand, surf, and outlet malls. But now, I get any food, any shop, anyTHING I could want, just a quick step off of the sand! It's brilliant! I love fresh french-fries - but the vinegar? Nu uh.

Pocket Full of Rocks

Pocket Full of ROcks has been performing and leading worship since 1995. They went the indie route for more than 10 years before signing with Warner Bro's Gospel/Christian division Word/Myrrh Records. At heart the band is all about worship. In fact, at their website you can download the guitar tabs and piano music (for free) to most of their songs!

Though nominated twice, PFOR has yet to win at the Dove Awards. But it isn't for acclaim that the band performs. They consider the highlight of their career when they led worship to over 500,000 people on the Washington Mall lawn.

Their song "Let It Rain" was also recorded by Michael W. Smith and Bishop Paul S. Morton, so they have residual checks coming in the mail.

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Brandon Heath

Brandon Heath Knell (AKA B-Heath, HeathBar, Heathcliff ... ok, now I'm just making stuff up) comes from a broken home. When he was just 3 his parents divorced. Growing up, Brandon was bitter towards his family, but he found comfort in Christ while in high school. At age 16 Brandon was invited to a Christian camp with some friends. He accepted Christ and began to learn about forgiveness.

Like many from a broken home, forgiving your parents for being human was not easy. Music was a great way to get his pain and struggle out. 2006 saw the release of "Don't Get Comfortable" - garnering radio play and topping Billboard's Christian charts. He won New Artist of the Year at the Dove Awards in 2007, and his song "I'm Not Who I Was" was performed by a contestant on American Idol.

In 2009 Brandon Heath released "Wait & See" - scoring another Billboard hit, and Heath joined Leeland to record their hit "Follow You." Besides recording, Heath writes and performs with many in the industry, helping other artists craft their hearts into songs.

Is it possible that we are already almost half way done with July? Seriously? All those Back-To-School ads are starting to make sense ... After I finished college a couple of years ago, I actually felt a bit sad when "back-to-school" time came around and I didn't have anything to do. But Kaylee will be in school soon enough, so I'll just bide my time until then.

The deeper into Summer we get, the more fantastic the corn and watermelon taste. I sampled both this past weekend and I must say - fresh produce is definetely going to make the 102.5 Shore Things list. But not today.

So the World Cup is over and I gather that Spain won, but apparently a psychic octopus picked Spain to win ... or something like that. I don't get soccer (or futbol, whatever), but I love to support local sports teams.
On my way home, most days I catch various soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse games going on at the giant field in Fruitland. I love playing and watching others play! If we truly want to beat the obesity epidemic in our country, we all need to play a little more. So go SU Soccer! You kick that ball, and run yourself ragged. But once real football season starts, I will stop paying you any attention!

Rush of Fools

Starting up as a small band in Alabama in 2005, Rush of Fools had only played for a short time before entering a contest called "Band with a Mission". They won the contest and recorded their debut, self-titled album with Midas Records. Gospel Music Channel's review of the band's debut album said Rush of Fools set a "higher bar to vault over" for the praise and worship genre.

This past year has seen plenty of hardship for the band. While on tour, the group's equipment trailer was stolen, taking the bulk of their gear with it.

Hip, hip ... HOORAY! It's Friday!

This morning, as I was trying to feed Kaylee (my 5 month-old) rice cereal (which she kindly decided to treat her spoon as a harmonica, blowing food all over my first clothing selection) and sipping some coffee, I was treated to a beautiful Summer rain. Just for about 15 minutes, the sun still shining through the clouds, I was enraptured by the simple, peaceful rain.

However, once the cloud moved on, the Great Outdoors became a Great Sauna. I probably could have steamed some crabs just by setting them on the porch!

#14. Steamed Crabs!
Where I come from, we have "crawfish boils." It's a big tradition, where you throw crawfish, corn, potatoes, and an assortment of other goodies into a giant boiling pot of water and oil and flavoring. It's delicious and spicy. And I miss it.
Here on the Shore, we "steam crabs." I don't even know what the looks like. How does it have any flavor? Is it worth the labor? I guess I will just have to give a try! I love seafood, so I think that I'll enjoy steamed crabs. I already love crab cakes ... so I'll give it the old college try.

#13. NASCAR at Dover Downs.
#12. Smith Island Cake.
#11. Enjoy looking at all the stars at night.
#10. See a sunrise at Molly's Point.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
DC Talk

Would Christian radio exist without DC Talk? Probably - but it would be really really terrible.

Every generation of Christian music usually has just a couple of artists that push the envelope, forcing everyone to either get with the times, or retire (although some in the 90s just got busted for drugs, or went through dirty divorces) - DC Talk led a revolution for Christian musicians (along with Audio Adrenaline and the Newsboys)!

They made records that were not only timely, but in some ways, far superior to the secular records available. That was a paradigm shift for the music industry. Soon Christian radio was the only radio format growing in popularity!

DCT started as straight up hip-hop from the DC area, but evolved into rock, alternative, and pop. This confounded anyone trying to label the group into just one genre. Their records went multi-platinum. They won 3 Grammy's and countless Dove Awards. They had crossover success around the world, but never abandoned their cause - to share Jesus with anyone who'd listen.

Albums you should own: Free At Last, Jesus Freak, Supernatural

Where are they now? DCT went on hiatus almost 10 years ago, in order to pursue solo careers and have more family time. Michael Tait is currently fronting The Newsboys, Kevin Max (AKA K-Max) is acting in Christian movies, and producing records, and Toby Mac ... well, you know what Toby Mac has been doing.

Will they ever get back together? I pray everyday that they will. I'd pay hundreds of dollars to see a DC Talk reunion concert. Seriously.

The clouds are a welcome relief from some crazy summer heat. Yesterday on our Facebook page, many of you gave us your ideas for some great summer sweet, cool-you-down treats. I gained 5 pounds just looking at the list. So thanks for that ...

#13. NASCAR at Dover Downs. OK ... this one is a bit controversial for me. Because, honestly, I don't care for racing. I enjoy a good Herbie movie, but NASCAR just doesn't do it for me. I think it is a little morbid, watching and waiting for someone to get into a life threatening accident. But I can appreciate the fandom out there. So route for your car as it makes its never ending left turn!

#12. Scarf down a really good piece of Smith Island Cake!
#11. Enjoy seeing all the stars at night.
#10. See a sunrise and sunset at Molly's Point at the mouth of the Wicomico River.

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Melissa Greene

Formerly in the group Avalon (you may have heard of them...), Melissa Greene went solo and hasn't stopped! Mix in family life (her youngest just got over a bout of Swine Flu!), church responsibilities, and making records - you get what should be a very frazzled woman, yet Melissa keeps rolling with the punches, smiling all the way!

She takes a lot of pointers from the book of Job, finding strength through trials. Melissa stepped down from Avalon to minister at Gracepointe Church in Nashville in 2008, but continues to record some solo stuff, just to make life interesting.

Her latest project is called "Next Step" and is available for purchase: http://melissagreenemusic.com/site/

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Alas, Wednesday. The middle of the week. A hot, hot week.

So how do you keep cool? Do you just sit inside, letting the AC do all the work, or do you go swimming? Sprinklers? Waterballoon fights? If you decide to make some homemade ice cream, save some for me!

Fresh fruits and vegetables contribute needed vitamins and water into your diet - which can help you avoid headaches and heat stroke. Speaking of vegetables, Joelle from Joy in the Morning brought in some Zuchini bread mocha cupcakes today. Now that is how to eat your vegetables! (In a related story, I hate V8. Just saying)

#12. Scarf down a really good piece of Smith Island Cake! Recommended flavors: coconut pineapple, chocolate-peanut butter, or German chocolate. Back in New Orleans (where I come from) we have Doberge cake - which is almost the exact same thing as Smith Island cake, so if you thought you had the market cornered, think again. However, I will never turn down a piece of delicious cake - especially with an ice-cold glass of milk to wash it down with! Mmmmmm...

#11. Enjoy seeing all the stars at night.
#10. See a sunrise and sunset at Molly's Point at the mouth of the Wicomico River.

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Sonicflood

It's been 10 years since Sonicflood practically brought contemporary Praise and Worship to the radio. Now half the Christian music section at Wal-Mart is Praise & Worship. It's a mixture of artistry with practicality; a way to produce music, but also a way to help the global church expand their music repertoire.

Sonicflood has a revolving door for castmembers. Currently the band has 5 guys from around the country, but since many of them lead worship at their home churches, the stage line-up shifts almost constantly.

Besides leading worship, Sonicflood has also created their own record label and production company - helping other musicians hone their craft and produce quality records.

4th of July break is over - time to get back to the grind stone. But it is so hot! Who can focus when the days are beautifully sunny, and the beaches are primed for our enjoyment?! But at least you don't have to suffer through the day - you've got the Joy Ride to make even the hottest of hot afternoons a little more bearable!

#11. Seeing all the stars at night.
While enjoying a fantastic 4th of July with my family, laying out on a hill watching fireworks in rural Maryland, I noticed that the orange glow of city lights didn't blot out the beautiful night sky. The sparkling stars (mixed with a fair share of airplanes and satellites) were truly beautiful. Don't take them for granted!

#10. See a sunrise and sunset at Molly's Point at the mouth of the Wicomico River.

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Chad Gentry

Who is Chad Gentry?

Chad Gentry has released EP's and singles the past few years, trying to break into the Christian music industry. 2009 saw the release of his first full length album "Time to Shine." Chad considers himself first and foremost a music missionary, with a passion to bring the message of Jesus Christ to both church and secular settings. This desire has taken him to many states and many venues to share his songs and his heart.

When not on the road, Chad partners with Murfreesboro, Tennessee area churches (just outside of Nashville) such as LifePoint Church, River Oaks Community Church, and New Vision Baptist Church.

Friday, July 2, 2010

I might just have to watch "Independence Day" this weekend. Cause lets face it, there are not a lot of American Revolution films that scream out "watch me!" Though I'm sure PBS will have some thrilling historical narratives this weekend ...

But for me, I celebrate my love of country with Will Smith and Bill Pullman. God Bless America!

#9. 4th of July Fireworks over the water – perhaps Rehobeth Beach or the Crisfield pier! Pretty explosions in the sky make me love America even more.

#8. Golf at Nutter's Crossing off Snow Hill Rd in Salisbury.
#7. A walk through the Salisbury Zoo!
#6. Good Mexican food at Cactus Taverna!

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Michael Robert

Michael Robert has been through the ringer as a follower of Christ. He and his wife Linda have survived dramatic health issues, car accidents, and the deaths of close loved ones, including Linda's brother to AIDS. Balancing life as a father to 6 kids, leading worship, and touring the country is a fast paced life for a boy who grew up on a ranch in the middle-of-nowhere Oregon!

Raising a family led to Michael putting aside musical ambition and opening his own pest control business. He coaches his kids sports teams and is very involved in their community. God blessed his endeavors and afforded him the opportunity to travel part time with his band and lead worship around the country.

Thursday, July 1, 2010

Tick, tock, tick, tock - that's the sound of the clock teasing me with a long Holiday weekend ... just out of reach. But you know what? We are going to make the best of this Thursday-that-should-be-a-Friday!

102.5 Shore Things

#8. Golf at Nutter's Crossing off Snow Hill Rd in Salisbury. I can't play golf - but I wish I could. I hope to learn now that I live on the Shore and it is comfortable to be outside more than 4 weeks out of the year.

#7. A walk through the Salisbury Zoo!
#6. Good Mexican food at Cactus Taverna!

ARTIST OF THE DAY:
Jamie Slocum

Jamie Slocum has been writing, performing, and recording in Nashville since the early 1990s, but it was only recently that his music got the attention of Christian radio. In 2009 his album and song "Dependence" took off. He was number one on Christian radio for 11 weeks! Also, he grabbed a GMA Dove nomination for "Song of the Year." Nice.

Jamie Slocum is an example of keeping faith in your calling, and achieving long sought after success only after a long time "out in the desert."

His latest single, "Fragile", written on the heels of Dependence, also deals with the issue of trusting God in an uncertain world. How we must delight in adversity knowing that our faith is being tested. (2 Corinthians 4) 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
